Ampthill Park

Return to: Landmarks
At the top of Ampthill Park in Bedfordshire there are two monuments.
One is the Ampthill Camp Memorial Cross. This marks the army recruitment and training centre here during World War One. 2235 soldiers passed through the centre. It also acts as a memorial to those 707 who did not return.
The other is Katherine’s Cross, named after Katherine of Aragon who was, at one time, held in the (no longer existing) castle here. She was waiting to hear her fate during divorce proceedings from King Henry VIII. The steps provided a convenient place to take a break during a 2024 walk.
