Hinchingbrooke: Nun's BridgeNuns Bridge

Return to: Landmarks

Nun's Bridge runs between Huntingdon and Brampton but is no longer accessible to cars. It is supposedly named after an 11th century nun who is said to haunt the road. It seems she had an affair with a monk and became pregnant. They were both executed when their affair became known to the authorities. There are probably several versions as to why the bridge was so named.

The road was previously the  A604(T), then the A141, now it is the B1514.  With the increase in traffic it was replaced in the late 60s/early 70s by a wider road and is now used only by pedestrians & cyclists.
